‘Stories mean so much to me’: get to know theo
Theo became our Board Chair in July 2025
He’s a lawyer, he’s an author, he’s a public speaker… and fortunately for us, he’s Chair of the Story Island Board!
As we launch into another Story Island year, we thought it would be a great time to get to know our new(ish) Chair––Theo Kapodistrias––a little better, and learn about his plans for Story Island in 2026.
Tell us a bit about your day job
I'm the General Counsel of a company called Stacked Farm. We’re revolutionising fresh food production for good.
We grow and deliver exceptionally fresh, sustainable, pesticide-free produce. I manage all things legal for the company and this is far more interesting than you'd ever imagine!
Name an interesting thing you do in your spare time
I run TEDxHobart – the localised Hobart TED-style event. I oversee everything from the curation, partnerships, marketing and managing our awesome volunteers. I'm looking forward to our next event on 1 August.
What made you interested in joining the Story Island Board?
I love Story Island's mission and goal to help young people harness their imagination through story and communication, giving them skills for life and helping them to reevaluate how they think about language, literature and education. With my governance and legal experience, I thought I could bring my endless enthusiasm to something that can make a significant difference to communities locally.
What do stories mean to you?
Stories mean so much to me! We connect with each other based on stories. We show emotion and express ourselves through story. We also show a lot about ourselves through story.
Outside of my day job, I'm a professional speaker and sharing stories on stage is how I get important messages across. Without stories, we miss out on the expression and connection we can build.
What are some highlights from your summer?
I mean, so many great things! A highlight every year is popping along to the Hobart International tennis tournament. It's great that we get a world-class event here in town.

What are you looking forward to in 2026 – personally, professionally… and for Story Island?
Personally, I'll be excited to see TEDxHobart happen again. After a short hiatus last year, it's exciting to be able to feel the excitement from the community.
Professionally between my legal role and my speaking business, there are a lot of exciting movements, so this is always fun.
With Story Island, we're continuing to do the brilliant work that we do. We'll welcome new volunteers on the ground doing their incredible work. As a board, we will set the new strategic direction to determine what the future will look like for Story Island, so this is an exciting place to be in!
